Hi, I'm Zahdi. Went from having really long, straightened hair to cutting all the straight off and going back to natural when I was about 17. I'm 24 now. Fuck the white man. LOL.

Anyway, introductions out of the way, thanks.

I have a style crisis......... I want to wear my hair other than out (in the fro), braided, or cut really short. Oh, or as I'm seeing more black kids do nowadays, in the fro-hawk. I'm very "out there," I'm willing to cut in strange ways, tie, twist, whatever, but it has to be cute. ^^ Y'know? I'm kinda goth-ish, kinda punkish, I want my hair to reflect more of my personality right now. Any ideas?

Then there's always the issue of finding someone in my city (D.C.) who is a) knowledgeable in cutting black hair (no, I don't trust the plain old salon for that) and b) willing to be really funky and out there. Thanks ^_^.

medusaofticun: Detangle me!!!!

Um....my hair is phuct up....

Usually I'm really good about conditioning, washing, combing, oiling, braiding etc. but I have been working 12 days straight and haven't had the time to do my hair. As a result my hair is completely matted.

It' hurts so bad to even attempt to comb it out right now. I've tried my usual method of spritzing with my essential oil and water mixture, then brushing it out from the end to the root, but to no avail.

Anyone have any detangler recipes? Hints? Tips?

I'm dying over here....

houkouonchi: Sedu

Hi there. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of the Sedu flat iron? I'm currently looking for a good, new flat iron and I've heard good things about this. However, since it's pretty expensive I want to make sure it will actually live it to it's rep. So if anyone has one or has ever used one please let me know if you like it?

for those of you with natural hair that cut thier hair themselves , what is your method? And do you use a certain kind of scissors? I'm bout to go back to school and I'm not returning back to braids, but it's not my first time having my natural hair out when I was there.
I don't think its just me but at the bottom of some strands my hair ties into little knots. I guess it wraps around itself. Anyone know what I'm talking about? And how to prevent this. .
Needless to say it's definitely time for a trim or at least to keep it up til I can venture to Oakland and see if theres a place that can do it for me. (anyone know of any bay area, northern cali natural hair salons?)
I think I might die my hair this week and if I do I'll post pictures here. .But first off, who has died their hair and what are their methods. I do nt have super thick hair but it's not as easy as if my hair was straight, yknow.

answers from Permed, pressed and natural folks are all welcome

here's pics of my hair lately. Collapse )

lovelylind: Quick Question

I have seen folks talk about different types of natural hair. Type A, B.... etc (I believe). Does anyone have a link or resource with pictures so that I can be educated on these different types?

Thank you in advance!
